Suzanne Kiggins is a contemporary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She started to develop her current work in 2017. This work is inspired by the unconscious mind and what it can tell us about what we are all doing here, free will, and what moves us.
Visually these pieces could be compared to traditional folk art with detailed ornamental patterns like florals, gems, and stars and also figures of animals, humans, or mythological creatures. Traditional folk art often represents stories people created to celebrate and explain the world at large, and their spiritual and emotional connection to the universe. Such stories have had a strong influence on humankind’s collective understanding of the world and how they fit into it, and offer a glimpse of dormant knowledge. Suzanne’s work is seeking these same dispatches from the unconscious in a contemporary world.
